February 2-23rd (4 consecutive Thursdays)
Week One - Thursday, 2/2
“Super Palate”
Have you ever walked into a wine tasting and asked the person pouring, “What’s good?” What’s good for me isn’t necessarily good for you. Everyone’s palate is different. This class will help you identify your likes, and dislikes, and learn how to communicate them when you purchase wine at a restaurant or wine shop. By the end of this class we will taste wines and create our own descriptions using typical wine terminology.
Week Two – Thursday, 2/9
“Getting down to Basics”
How is wine made? How do the bubbles get in the Champagne? What’s the difference between Chardonnay and Riesling? What is fortified wine? What is organic and biodynamic wine? Should I buy wine with a screwcap? We will start from scratch in this class to be sure everyone understands some of the basics. Bring your questions!
Week Three – Thursday, 2/16
“Wines of the World”
There is now more good wine available than ever before. Have you ever tried Viognier, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petite Syrah, or Gruner Veltliner? In this class you will travel with me all over the world tasting wines sometimes made from grapes only grown in that country. It’s such an education, and so much fun.
Week Four - Thursday, 2/23
“Which wine should I buy for my dinner?”
Okay, now you know how wine is made, how to describe the flavors you like, which varietals you like best, which region you like the most, and how to purchase wine economically. So what wine goes best with the dinner you’re making tonight? Let me help make this easy for you by breaking it all down to basics. This class is my most popular, so you won’t want to miss it.
